Priscilla Anacakuyani Bell

The Abington Friends School Visual Arts Department has chosen Priscilla Anacakuyani Bell for our first exhibit of the 2014-15 school year. Her work is both technically masterful and highly evocative. As an artist who was born, raised, and trained in Philadelphia, she represents local talent with an understanding of the complex cultural dynamics of our region. She is a woman of color who shares her deeply-felt identity through her work.

Priscilla is exhibiting a range of portrait paintings which depict both contemporary subjects and figures that represent her Puerto Rican heritage. Many of the pieces represent members of her Taino tribe enveloped in the symbolic imagery she uses to bridge the contemporary work with its ancient roots.
