The 4th grade has begun their Mold Symposium experiments! The students selected the food items for their experiment and wrote an experimental design. They brought the food items in last Wednesday and we got started. They set up their experiment by labeling petri dishes and placing their food in the dishes, adding water if necessary. The students will monitor the progress of the experiment over the course of the next four weeks, identifying and drawing the mold that grows. Then the students will prepare presentation boards that outline their entire experiment, including results and conclusion. They will share those results in a science symposium with three other schools in March. The experiment questions were very varied this year, from "Will mold grow more on a pineapple or a coconut?" to "Will mold grow more on a jalapeno pepper or a green pepper?". Stay tuned for the results of these experiments!
Will mold grow more on a lime in the hot or cold?
Will mold grow more on plain bread or bread that has been toasted?
The students were fascinated by Jackie's experiment on tea bags!
Will mold grow more on a chocolate chip cookie or an Oreo?
Will mold grow more on a banana in the light or dark?
Will mold grow more on organic ketchup or regular ketchup?
