Before our Spring Break, the kindergarteners had shown a strong interest in learning about animals and thus
have embarked on studying this topic. To support their learning during la clase de Español, we have been
learning the names of some animals. Using the YouTube channel on the SMART
Board as an avenue to make learning fun, the kindergarteners watched videos
that introduced the vocabulary for animales
domestico (domestic animals), animales
salvajes (wild animals) and animales
en peligro de extinción (endangered animals).

Animales Salvages [2:25]
Los 10 Animales En Peligro de Extinción 2012 [3:41]
To
encourage and sustain their learning, games have been provided such el juego de los matamoscas (the Fly
Swatter Game) with flashcards ....
.... and ¿Qué falta? (What’s missing?) using 3D miniature animal models. In the game, ¿Qué falta?, a few animal models would be displayed for all to see, then covered with a bandana. While they are covered, one is removed and the bandana is lifted. The Kindergarteners were challenged to state in Spanish which figurine went missing. They were so good at guessing that the game became more challenging by adding more figurines and removing two, three and sometimes four at a time. Everyone had so much fun!
Stay tuned to see where this study leads us …
