Checking in on Library in First through Fourth…

First Grade has been enjoying Random Book Friday. On these days, two students grab a random book that we read as a group. It is our way of exploring the picture book section of the library. We are on a quest to expose ourselves to multiple genres of literature and experience books we may never have found. The students love this and particularly enjoy rating the selections.

Second Grade is gearing up for the Second Grade Book Awards.  Students work in pairs or groups of three. After selecting a “category” as a way of evaluating the books, students will choose three nominations. They then work to select the winner!  After creating a trophy or medal, the Book Award presentations are shared with first grade and kindergarten.

Third Grade took some time away from their movie projects to explore work from Grace Lin. Although very familiar with her chapter books, students dedicated this time to reading Grace Lin’s picture books. Students were able to decide if they wanted to read the books on their own, in pairs or groups of three. Enjoying picture books is always a pleasure.

Fourth Grade continues their work on the Crossing Boundaries project. Most students have finished their scripts and are gathering images for their projects. Additionally, students have found free music, created their own tracks in Garage Band or pulled a favorite song from home. We anticipate completing this project within the next two weeks.
