Lower School This Week

We've had a busy week in Lower School!  As I write this update, we are coming to the end of our first fall Conference Day.  It's been such a pleasure seeing many of you in the hallway and hearing about your children's accomplishments thus far this year.  This past week, the Catbirds, Owls and Cardinals have engaged in numerous literacy adventures including telling stories, listening to stories and writing stories!

In kindergarten, the students enjoyed an incredible performance by Dynamo, a band that shared numerous jazz and early popular music hits.  The very next day, our K students visited a piano factory where they learned all about how pianos are made.  First grade has been working on a special skeleton dance as part of their study about Mexico.  In second grade, the students have worked hard to become bird experts.  Third graders shared an incredible Mid-Autumn Moon Celebration, complete with music and poetry.  Fourth graders also shared incredible poetry and descriptive writing via the amazing Shore Trip display that has been hung outside the fourth grade classrooms. Our second, third and fourth grade Mathletes have been meeting regularly, and this week, they worked on some perplexing problems that required spacial reasoning.

Finally, last Sunday we welcomed many families for the Fall Food Drive and Music Fest.  We sorted an impressive amount of food and tracked our work on a special graph now hanging in Lower School near the library.  Many thanks to all of you who have been a part of the wonderful accomplishments, the work and the celebrations that comprised the life of Lower School this week!
