Kindergarten Field Trip!

As part of our emergent study of Music in Kindergarten, we went to The Cunningham Piano Company in Germantown.   We started out in the showroom...

...And then walked to the workshop.  It was a picture perfect fall morning!

We saw a soundboard being rebuilt.
We saw the empty frame of a piano.
We saw a VERY heavy cast iron frame for the strings...
And, we got to hear one of the piano makers play us a little ditty.
It was fascinating to see all of the parts and phases of work required to build a piano!  The children were riveted!  They had many questions, and they had a lot of fun.  One of the exciting things about emergent curriculum is that you are never quite sure what direction it will take.  We are so glad it took us to the piano factory!!!
