Before playing the game, we discussed the idea of healthy competition. We talked about how it is important to say “good game“ whether you win or lose. We talked about how the object of the game is to have fun and learn new skills. Our students were engaged deeply in this game, and the level of excitement was palpable in the classroom. We gave our students the opportunity to choose their own partners for this game. In addition to developing counting and number recognition skills, they were also developing their interpersonal, emotional and physical self-regulation skills during this activity.

Math in Kindergarten
Children are fascinated by the world around them. There is an inherent satisfaction in deepening our understanding of how our world works . Our students engaged in a discussion about why math is helpful in our world, and they soon realized that math is a useful tool to gain a deeper understanding of many things. Here is a list of some of the ways that our students think math can be helpful...
We recently played a math game that involves rolling a dice, and moving your piece to a square that has the corresponding numeral. This game becomes quite exciting, as it is a winning and losing game. If a student rolls a one, then they lose their turn, because only the numerals two through six appear on the pathway towards the prize in the middle of the game board.
