Pumpkins Come to Life as Book Characters in Third Grade

Third grade students recently completed a very unique kind of book report- a book report involving pumpkins!  After studying the concept of character and character traits in reading this fall, each student chose a favorite book character for their project.  At home they wrote about the character and the book or books that the character is from.  They also made a plan for how they would create a representation of their character using a pumpkin and gathered supplies that would be helpful for their creation.

In school this week we worked with resource teachers during a community time to bring the student's ideas to life!  Using a variety of materials from paint to pipe cleaners, students painted, cut and glued objects to their pumpkins.  It was really amazing to see not only the variety of characters that students chose, but also the creative ways in which they represented each character's personality and physical attributes.  The completed pumpkin characters are in the third grade hallway.  Each pumpkin is accompanied by the book that the character appears in.  Please stop by and check them out if you get the opportunity!
