Emergent Curriculum in Kindergarten

We began the year with a study of our five senses as a way to captivate and cultivate the attention of our students.   During the course of this study, the children have become fascinated by the way our bodies work.  Following their interest, we are embarking on a study of the human body.  Emergent studies in Kindergarten are effective for providing a foundation for the love of learning.  The students are motivated to share their new found knowledge through drawing, writing, building, and speaking.   A wide range of skills are developed within a context of discovery and exploration.  Here are some highlights that trace our journey thus far...

Trying to walk back to the classroom without our sense of sight

Learning about veganism in conjunction with our discussion of the sense of taste

Fascinating books about the body spark interest

The doctors are in!

Learning about the heart at the Franklin Institute

Learning about the brain at the Franklin Institute

See what we can do with our amazing bodies!
