First and Third Grade Partnerships Build Community

First and third graders meet each week for Meeting for Worship in the Meeting House and in our classrooms. To build friendships and community with one another, Felix’s class invited Susan’s class to join them for a block building activity.

Each student was invited to choose a block to add to the structure while sharing an interesting fact about themselves or something they enjoy. It was a great way to build a connection and get to know one another as we begin on our yearlong partnership together.

We will meet each Wednesday to walk to the meeting house where we share in a time of reflection, listening and sharing. The third graders are great role models to our first graders and this deepens their sense of what it means to be a part of a community. On the first Wednesday of each month we meet together in our classrooms for Meeting for Worship where we share a story or activity that connects us to Quaker values and building community.

We will also enjoy special times together engaging in community service, like making care packages for individuals living in shelters next month, as well as activities and celebrations, like this Friday where we will get together and share some fun Halloween themed activities.
