Fourth graders have been practicing their interview skills. Students were partnered with a friend and had the opportunity to learn about a friend's hobby, interest or just a way they loved to spend their time. The students were instructed to ask some clarifying questions, as well as some probing questions, or inquiries that bring forth more information. This is a skill they will use continuously in the educational careers and one will continue to strengthen.
Once the students had some information, they had the opportunity to create a movie by videotaping a second interview. The students are in the process of finding pictures to use in the movie to create cut aways. This is when you can hear the interview but an image appears on the screen that pertains to the topic. The students will then add some background music so they have the chance to learn how to add sound. Finally, students will create a credits page that will include the websites from which they took their pictures. Once the project is complete they will be added to the students' e-portfolios so they can be shared with families.
