Emergent Curriculum In Kindergarten

We recently noticed many students making robots with our unifix cubes in the classroom...

We responded to this interest by visiting some Upper School friends in the Robotics Lab!  The "big kids" were delighted to have enthusiastic visitors to demonstrate the cool things that they can do with their robots.  We learned about how the robots use echolocation to "see."  This is how the robots figure out how to navigate the mazes built by the students.  This was a fascinating bit of information, and it was a nice connection to the ongoing work that we have been doing in kindergarten where we have been learning about the 5 senses.

Our kindergarteners also got to roll balls to the robots which they trapped with their robot arms. Then the robots rolled back to the kindergartners to give the ball back to them!  It will be interesting to see where this study goes next...
