Second graders are just starting to learn to tell time. Students will be learning to use the minute and hour hand to show and tell time to the nearest minute. We began with learning parts of the clock and how to tell time to the hour and half hour. We will then go into telling time to the quarter hour and to the minute. Finally, students will be learning how to determine elapsed time.
We watched the following video to introduce parts of the clock and the basics of telling time.
Students are at a variety of levels in their knowledge of telling time, and we'd like for their practice to match where they are. A great practice game for telling time is called 'Stop the Clock.' There are three different levels so that students can progress when they feel ready.
