Throughout the year, students in the art room have been working on projects that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Design-based thinking is used frequently in projects in lower school art which integrate concepts from multiple subject areas.

For example, the fourth grade students learned to use the coping saw earlier this year, using problem-solving skills, measuring, planning and gaining experience using woodworking tools. The third graders have been designing imaginative cities and towns in a collaboration with Spanish class. They are building model cities in the art room, considering the landscape, design and architecture of their invented world, while reinforcing Spanish vocabulary.

Work from all grade levels will be showcased during the upcoming Lower School STEAM Night, which will be held Wednesday, April 17th from 6:30-8:00 PM. Please join us to engage in hands-on activities, view student work from multiple subject areas and engage as a community.
