After a very successful "Egypt Night" with
families just before spring break, second graders recently embarked on a new
exploration! Using globes, atlases and maps, the students are learning
about the continents and oceans that make up our world.
This geography work, some done independently and some in
small groups, will lead into more focused country studies that connect with the
many "How and Why" stories we are reading together. We will
read stories from nearly every continent, with one exception. Ask any
second grader to tell you which one is NOT included and why!
In addition, in
the last week, the students have read a wide variety of short stories with the
purpose of choosing their three favorites.
This is the first step in the process of learning how to become a storyteller. Over the next few weeks they will map their
story and practice, practice, practice with support from their teachers and peers.
