On Friday, December 18th, 2015, the Muller Auditorium was transformed into a beautiful, mystical vision of night time brilliance, warmth and light. Our students worked collaboratively with the guidance of Lower School Art Teacher, Amanda Milz, to create the stunning sets and backdrop to our Winter Program Una Luz para Luz, A Light for Luz.
Our story was about a little girl, Luz, in search of her inner light. Throughout the show, Luz witnesses the many ways in which her friends' lights shine through their acts of love and kindness. Her search continues in her dreams, as the audience travels with Luz around the world to see children from different cultures and traditions making music together, dancing together, creating love, light and community. Luz awakens from her dream and is greeted by her friends from both her real world and dream world. They all remind her of her own kindness and warmth, as she cheered and celebrated all of their acts of kindness with a smile and a thumbs up throughout her journey. Luz realizes that her inner light shines when she is kind and encouraging to others and she realizes that her kindness also brings people together to create a special community.
The students of the AFS Lower School worked tirelessly as musicians, artists, dancers and storytellers. Their teachers all worked together as well to bring this show to light. We hope you were able to join us, but if not, please see just a few pictures from the show. Stay tuned for a video!
We were all incredibly proud and moved by the work of these young artists and I feel so very honored to be a part of their lives and creative processes! Happy New Year!
