Fabulous February!

We are feeling fabulous this February!  Classrooms are absorbed in intensely engaging activities, which are essential when the wind is blowing, and it's so cold that your nose tingles the moment you step outside. This month we have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of community activities that will hopefully keep our spirits warm.

First off, we hope you can join us for coffee tomorrow morning at 8:00 to learn more about Lower School Art Night!

Also tomorrow, fourth grade will teach all of Lower School and fifth and sixth grades about a variety of trades that were part of this country's colonial era.  Come learn about what it meant to be a teacher, an innkeeper, a silversmith, a shipwright and more! The Colonial Trade Fair will be open in the fourth grade classrooms from 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. tomorrow!

This week we are beginning a project called Warm Hearts, Warm Feet that entails collecting new socks.  The socks will be turned into special Valentines over the course of February and donated to Mitzvah Circle (http://mitzvahcircle.org/).  If you have questions, please contact Jaime at jkatz@abingtonfriends.net.

We are very excited to host our first Lower School Art Night featuring the work of students in Early Childhood through fourth grade.  The Lower School walls are covered in gorgeous works of art.  At Lower School Art Night, we will have the pleasure of hearing from Priscilla Anacakuyani Bell, the artist whose work is featured outside Muller Auditorium.  We will also welcome several local artists, faculty members and family members who will share their artistic expertise. For more information, click HERE.

On February 13, school will be closed and faculty will participate in a day of learning and planning as we engage in our annual February in-service day.  This year we will be focused on curricular connections and comparing how various skills are taught in Lower and Middle schools.

We look forward to sharing your children's progress with you on Conference Day, which is February 20.  Your child's electronic portfolio will be shared with you at that time, giving you a unique window into their learning and their reflections on what they are learning.

The Lower School Book Club for adults, guided by Ann B. B., will meet February 23 in the Lower School library to discuss Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.  Coffee and pastries will be served. Please join us to discuss this compelling story.

As you can tell, February truly is fabulous.  We hope you can join us for any, or all, of this month's events!
