Our first graders were absolutely amazing just before spring break as they provided their families, teachers and Lower School students detailed information and artifacts about their heroes during our second Hero Museum. The students were well prepared having practiced with each other and the other first grade class on Thursday. They had the opportunity to proudly show their hero books filled with their research, artwork and photos of their hero, thanks to Michelle and Catherine for finding so many books for us to use in our research. They also had a carefully crafted ceramic model of their heroes created with Donna in art and their Spanish attributes learned with Alicia.
The morning of the museum, the first graders did a beautiful job with Keisha singing Follow the Drinking Gourd to honor hero Harriet Tubman. Each student also had a copy of a real postage stamp of their hero or one that represented their hero's work that Caroline helped them find. New to the museum this year was the creative way a number of students dressed up as their heroes. It was as if you were talking directly to the hero in person! This was a truly impressive culmination to several months of thoughtful, diligent work by each of the first grade students. It was so remarkable to share in their excitement as they shared books and new information and new connections with each other as they learned more and more about their heroes. And then to watch them shine as they shared it all with the AFS community.
Bravo first grade on a study brought to life with such enthusiasm and care!!
