Author Stacy McAnulty Visits November 10th!

Students in our early childhood classes through third grade are eagerly anticipating Stacy McAnulty's visit on Thursday, November 10th! Stacy is the author of the popular series, The Dino Files. Her third book in this series was just published this month.  It is clear that Stacy has a love for dinosaurs, and she has embedded facts about dinosaurs and paleontologists in her delightful chapter book series.

Students are enjoying listening to the first book in this series, The Dino Files A Mysterious Egg.  In this book, nine-year-old Frank and his cousin Samantha are visiting their grandparents who own a dinosaur museum in Wyoming. Their grandmother is a paleontologist. Frank and Samantha's summer becomes very exciting when their grandmother discovers a dinosaur egg in an area where a number of dinosaur fossils have been discovered. In addition to the exciting plot and inclusion of vocabulary of dinosaur terms, Stacy has created characters with interesting and distinct personalities for our students to discuss, compare and note growth as they react to events in the book.

Stacy McAnulty's The Dino File books forge a connection for our students through the dinosaur information and focus of this book series. It is fortuitous that Abington Friends School is sponsoring the Academy of Natural Sciences Dinosaur's Unearthed exhibit. Our first grade is visited this exhibit on Wednesday, October 26 and on Sunday, November 20 many families will join us at the museum.

Our school won a set of the three The Dino Files books through a contest on Stacy's website. These books are signed by the author and will become part of our library collection.
Stacy is also the author of wonderful picture books including Beautiful and Excellent Ed. Parents have the opportunity of ordering books by Stacy McAnulty through the form that was sent home from Open Book Store. These books will be signed by Stacy during her visit.
