Second grade recently finished their Book Awards Project! Each student self assigned themselves to a category that the class brainstormed together. Categories spanned the gamut from "Best Kitten and Bunny" book to "Best Craft" to "Best Space." The groups then established how they would evaluate the books, chose three nominations and then, finally, a winner.
Students pulled together multiple skills to complete this task including: research, analysis, negotiating, evaluating and judging. When the groups agreed on a winner, the next step was, of course, the award.
Children created trophies to award in each category. Working together the students designed, created, problem solved and collaborated to make the vision in their own minds a concrete object. These amazing and creative trophies can be seen in the Lower School Library.
And finally, of course, we had an Awards Ceremony. The students shared their categories, nominees and winners with the whole lower school during a morning assembly.
Currently, the students are reflecting on their work and will create a small poster to share their thoughts.
