First Grade Completes The Dino Files Trilogy

The three books from The Dino Files series by Stacy McAnulty have been completed by the first grade. At the end of the third book, The Dino Files: It's Not a Dinosaur, the students had the opportunity to think about the big ideas presented in the book. After listening to the final page in the book, students went through a chapter title and picture walk in order to remember important events and to generate thoughtful recollections of the characters in the story. The students then closed their eyes and visualized a part of the third book that they wanted to remember. After opening their eyes, they turned and talked to a partner about the section they visualized and then discussed their ideas with a teacher before writing and illustrating that section. The three books in this series have been a deeply engaging reading experience for our students.
