Finding Mean, Median and Mode in Fourth Grade

As we have been learning about mean, median, mode and range, fourth grade students applied their knowledge in a variety of hands-on ways.  This week they measured their arm spans and heights to find the average, or mean, height and arm span for their group.  They learned and practiced the formula for finding the mean; adding up the numbers and dividing by how many numbers there are.  While measuring, many students were surprised to find how close their hight and arm span were.
