The children visited the Morris Arboretum for Arbor Week and learned about the importance of trees to our world and how we can take good care of the trees. Ask your child what trees do for us and what the roots do for the trees. They will have many answers! After a tour of some trees at the arboretum, the children played a trivia game and planted yellow birch seedlings to take home.
Another outdoor project included working with second grade partners to clean up the riparian buffer that was planted last year.

Another outdoor project included working with second grade partners to clean up the riparian buffer that was planted last year.
A second collaborative project included working with Step Up Academy students to help with rain garden planting. This involved carefully digging holes for tiny plant plugs, soaking the roots of the young plants and then planting them. Many grades worked on this project.
The students cannot wait to see the changes that will take place over the next few weeks and months as the plants take root and grow into their new home. The excitement of working outside was best summed up when a kindergartner exclaimed, "This was the best day ever! Do we have to go in?" These opportunities to be outside connecting with nature and actively engaging in meaningful experiences can only foster a growing love for the care of our planet.
