Math games are a great way, both at home and in school, for students to practice apply the math skills and concepts we have been learning. Before Thanksgiving break, I gave each first grader a packet of math games to play at home and a set of dice with which to practice them. Before Winter Break, I will be doing the same thing for second, third and fourth grade, but with different games. Before sending home the games, we have been practicing them so that the students are comfortable with the rules. Math games can be a great source for developing mathematical reasoning while practicing basic facts. In addition, how math is experienced in the home has a big impact on how children feel about math in school. I hope you enjoy playing these games with your children!
